GAME REPORT: August 29th, 2010
OPPONENT: Brantford 99ers
VENUE: Gretzky Sports Complex, puck drop 5:00pm
FINAL SCORE: Oakville
1 Brantford 4
Yesterday afternoon’s game result certainly did not match
how sharp the boys looked in their new sweaters. Everyone should have known a
team that had been beaten 4-1 a few days before, would love to get revenge from
the first encounter, and sure enough the 99ers dominated most of the game.
Brantford was first to the puck most of the night, and just
seemed to be a step ahead. Less unforced errors and an ability to capitalize on
power play opportunities were the Rangers’ downfall on this night. The 99ers
managed to get three power play goals vs. the one by Oakville, a nice effort by
Daniel J. on a great setup from Brandon H.
Special mention should go to both netminders; Matt G., and
Vito P. who kept us in through sometimes a barrage of opportunities. Matt G.
stopped a number of breakaways or partial breakaways.
Finally, there were too many penalties on both sides and I’m
sure this will be a hot topic for both coaches as they move forward. Discipline
is critical.
Ultimately though, it is pre-season so better to get these
types of games out of the way before the puck is dropped for real. With a
couple of dryland sessions and one on-ice practice to go before the last
exhibition game, it is important for the players to continue to work hard,
listen to the coaches and look forward. Training camp is now done!
